Infinity Blade

Epic released their first Unreal Engine 3 game for the iPhone, Infinity Blade. While the gameplay is mediocre at best, I find the graphics absolutely stunning for an iPhone game. Now I can’t wait for the UDK to incorporate this. Epic already said they would. It’s just a matter of when.

New Laptop

After my old, cheap laptop melted from almost four years of abuse, I was forced to purchase a new laptop. Instead of fooling myself into thinking that I wouldn’t be tempted to play games on a laptop and subsequently melt it playing games, I decided to man up and buy a laptop that could game if I wanted to. I decided to go with one of the new Dell XPSes, the XPS 15.

While a game enthusiast would have picked a more sensible gaming machine, I picked the XPS with the idea that it would only be used for sparse gaming. I picked a machine with decent specs, portability and the ability to play games during vacations. Now I don’t have to lug my desktop around when I visit the parents for a week. I’m really loving the HD screen. The 15″ display has a 1920×1080 resolution—the same as my 23″ monitors. And speakers are possibly the best I’ve ever heard from a laptop.

The battery life isn’t superb, but with the 9-cell battery I upgraded to I get 5+ hours browsing the web. Thanks to NVIDIA Optimus, the GT420M graphics card lays dormant while the on-board integrated chip handles graphically minimal tasks—like browsing the web or programming. However, when I need the power I have a decent GPU at my fingertips. The GT420M might not be a powerhouse, but it allows me to play any modern game at medium settings or higher—even if I tend to opt for lower settings to keep heating at a minimum.

Overall, the “honeymoon period” has been very good—aside from the fact that Dell loads their machines with bloatware. But, I haven’t even had the machine for 6 hours yet, so I haven’t been able to put it through its paces. Here’s hoping to continued smooth sailings.

P.S. I wish they didn’t bother including McAfee.

The Walking Dead

As a zombie fanatic, a show called The Walking Dead would obviously pique my interest. The Walking Dead, a television series on AMC about zombies and a post-apocalyptic world, is the first time—to my knowledge—that the zombie genre has been made for television.

After discovering it yesterday evening, I immediately watched the first (and only) two episodes. Although I never read the comics this show is based on, I’m enjoying what’s been shown so far.

The show itself is your standard zombie affair, and it doesn’t deviate too much from the lore laid down by heavy-hitters like George A. Ramero. However, that’s the way I like my zombies.

If you’re a fan of zombies, I highly suggest you check it out.

A Farewell Story

After playing (read: botting) retail Lineage 2 for roughly two years and subsequently getting banned (on more than one occasion), I’ve decided to quit the MMO that has held my life hostage since 2005 (note: there is no time discrepancy there—I played private servers until 2008 when I decided to spring money on the actual game).

Aside from a month spent on Aion and numerous trial accounts for otther MMOs, my MMO experience has been rather lacking in diversity. Even though I had spent the previous five years of my life mocking World of Warcraft, I found myself seriously considering it as a replacement for Lineage 2 simply because of the casual factor. It was the part of World of Warcraft that I despised years ago that led me to picking the game up: the fact that I could spend less than 100 hours a week on it and make notable progress.

Currently, my account is a week old, and I’m only level 28. There are a lot of things I don’t like and things I do like. My roommate and I are taking it slowly. We’re casually playing our way through dungeons and quests and having a blast. We’ll see in a month’s time if I stick with this.

Wow. I never thought I’d see the day I’d actually be playing World of Warcraft.

Edit: Here’s my character on WoW Armory.

New Website

That’s right. I’ve gone and redesigned the website once again. Why? A combination of factors led to this decision. My free web host was abysmally slow, so I moved the web site on to a server I wasn’t using. Additionally, spam bots had all but destroyed the comment system. I know neither of those are very good reasons for completely redesigning a web site, but that’s beside the point.

I’m also going to make some more promises. Hopefully they won’t be empty promises this time. I plan to post more and actually make those other links at the top do stuff.

I’m setting my sights high with that last promise.

Small Aion PHP API Fix

There was a small error in the example file that was posted on the website and in the download.

I uploaded a new zip file, but the API itself hasn’t changed any.
